The Art Healthy Mural Challenge is open to all San Bernardino Valley College and SBCUSD high school students, local to Dignity Health - St. Bernardine Medical Center and Community Hospital of San Bernardino. Submit your original artwork themed around “mental health, family, and personal wellness”, and it could be selected for permanent public display at St. Bernardine Medical Center or Community Hospital. Two artists will be selected and announced on September 8, 2025. Then, there will be an official unveiling ceremony of the masterpieces at your local hospital!

The Art Healthy Mural Challenge is a dynamic, community-driven art challenge centered around the vital themes of mental health, family, and personal wellness. The challenge is open to all San Bernardino Valley College and SBCUSD high school students, local to Dignity Health - St. Bernardine Medical Center and Community Hospital of San Bernardino. Students submit their original artwork themed around mental health, family, and personal wellness. Two selected artworks will be announced on September 8, 2025 and will be prominently showcased at St. Bernardine and Community Hospitals with an official unveiling ceremony.
Challenge Overview
1. Students who take on the challenge can share their progress online with hashtags #ArtHealthySB #ArtHealthyMuralChallenge, and Dignity Health or participating partners may share it!
2. Artwork Creation & Submission: Students create original artwork in various mediums including drawing, painting, and digital art (no AI). Artwork must be on a single page, no larger than 11"x17", and in a horizontal format.
3. Registration & Entry ID: Students 18 and over may register themselves. Parents, legal guardians, or teachers must register any student under 18 to obtain an entry ID. This ID or a signed permission form must accompany each submission.
4. Submission Deadline: Artwork entries will be accepted until Friday, August 29, 2025.
5. Judging Process: Entries will be evaluated based on originality, interpretation of the theme, creative techniques, composition, and overall art appearance. Officials from Dignity Health select top submissions from each grade which will then be reviewed by a panel of judges.
6. Main Selections: Two main selections will be chosen to be digitized, enlarged, and publicly displayed at St. Bernardine and Community Hospital. The main selection students will receive commemorative plaques and art-themed promotional items featuring their artwork.
7. Unveiling Ceremony: The main selection artists will be announced on September 8th and their artwork will be professionally displayed and unveiled during a special ceremony on September 26, 2025 at St. Bernardine, celebrating both artists and their schools

1. Who is eligible to participate in the Art Healthy Mural Challenge? The challenge is open to all San Bernardino Valley College and SBCUSD high school students, local to Dignity Health - St. Bernardine Medical Center and Community Hospital of San Bernardino.
2. What are the requirements for the artwork submitted to the challenge? All artwork must be the student's original creation and concept. It should not be a photograph. Acceptable mediums include drawing (pencil, charcoal, pastels, crayon, marker, chalk, ink), painting (oil, acrylics, watercolor, water-based, spray paint), and original digital creations (AI or digital image generation is not permitted). Digital art must be submitted as a high-resolution image (minimum 2400 x 2400 pixels) in .jpg, .pdf, or .png format. Each submission requires a Unique Student ID obtained during registration. For students under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must register them. If a teacher submits artwork, a signed permission form is necessary. Artwork must be on a single page, no larger than 11"x17", and in a horizontal format. The front should not have signatures or initials (these are allowed on the back). Artwork should avoid plagiarized quotations or text unless directly relevant and properly cited. Art derived from copyrighted sources like Disney, Marvel, DC Comics, Pixar, or copyrighted celebrity images will not be accepted. Only one entry per student is permitted.
3. How do students register and submit their artwork? Registrations must be submitted by the student, or if under 18, by a parent, legal guardian, or teacher online at www.arthealthysb.org or by scanning the QR code from the promotional materials. The Entry ID must be placed under the student's name on the artwork. An online entry form and a photo of the student must also be submitted by August 29, 2025. Online registrants must submit their original artwork if chosen to be a finalist. All entries must be original, unpublished, and previously unproduced. Each entry needs to be accompanied by a permission form or the student's unique entry ID.
4. What are the criteria used to judge the artwork? Entries will be evaluated based on several criteria, including originality, interpretation of the subject matter or theme, creative techniques used, the composition of the artwork, and its overall artistic appearance. Dignity Health officials will initially select top submissions from each grade, which will then be reviewed by a panel of judges using these criteria to determine 2 Main Selections.
5. What are the prizes and recognition for Main Selections? The Main Selection students will receive commemorative plaques, art-themed t-shirts and/or promotional items featuring their artwork. Their original artwork will be digitized and enlarged for public display at a Dignity Health facility, which will be unveiled at a special ceremony on Friday Sep. 26th. If sponsorship and materials allow, the main selected artists’ schools may also receive goods and services.
6. What rules govern the use of trademarks, copyrighted material, and personal information? Artwork cannot include registered trademarks or licensed logos that are not part of the student's original work. Art derived from copyrighted sources is prohibited. By participating, entrants grant CommonSpirit Health the right to use their name, photo, biographical information, and artwork for advertising and promotional purposes, including on their website and in future challenges. They also grant the right to use their name, address, and email to contact them, their guardian, and their teacher about the challenge. Personal information collected will be used according to CommonSpirit Health's privacy policy. CommonSpirit Health may display submitted artwork on their website and social media, typically showing the first name, last initial, age, state, and photo of the entrant with their art. Main Selection students may have more detailed information (full name, age, state, photo, short bio) shared.
7. Are there any restrictions on who can participate? Officers, directors, and employees of CommonSpirit Health, San Bernardino City Unified Schools, San Bernardino Valley Community College, and their related entities, including their immediate family members and those living in the same household, are not eligible to enter the challenge or be selected. The challenge is void where prohibited.
8. What happens to the submitted artwork and related materials? Submissions will not be returned or acknowledged, and proof of submission is not proof of receipt. CommonSpirit Health is not liable for lost, intercepted, or unreceived submissions. Once submitted, artwork may be displayed on Dignity Health's website and social media. No substitutions or new versions of submissions will be accepted. CommonSpirit Health reserves the right to disqualify any submission deemed objectionable.
